Success at 2011 WGUK Championships

On Friday 1st April over 120 of us left Brighton on the journey to the 2011 British Winterguard Championships being held at Ponds Forge International Centre in Sheffield on Saturday 2nd April.

Being drawn as the first performance of the day was not the planning the Open Guard had in mind when the season started and we moved forward into the Finals contest in the evening sitting in 4th Place.  Their performance of the "Life On Wisteria Lane" show that evening was by far the best the 17 girls had done all season and was a tribute to the hard work they and the staff had put in over the previous weeks but whilst it closed the gap on third they remained in 4th Place.

Following 2 successive Championship wins, and being undefeated this season, the A Guard competed in the A Class Championships and secured one of the top 3 placings to move into the evening Play Off.  These 11 girls sure knew how to turn it on that night with their "Audrey" show and their final performance of the year not only gave them their third Championship title in a row but put them nearly 5 points in front of the next nearest unit.

Following in the footsteps of the A Guard, the Juniors made their way into their Play Offs being in the top 3 in their Championships.  In the evening the 14 members really gave their "Dog Days Have Gone" show all they had got and secured their second successive Championships win in a row also out pointing the 2nd Place unit in their class by nearly 5 points.

The Rugrats were seeded in 5th Place going into the Cadet Class Championships and the 15 members performed their hearts out to their "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" show to jump two spots and grab the 3rd Place Bronze Medal.

So as the 2011 season comes to end planning for Winter 2012 starts already for the staff whilst during the summer month the members will continue to work on their basic techniques in a slightly more relaxed and less intense environment.

As we take our tally of Championship wins up to 16, congratulations to all 4 of our units on another successful competitive winter season.
