2014 Season results

The culmination of the 2014 Winter Guard United Kingdom season took place on Saturday 29th March at the Fenton Manor Leisure Centre in Stoke On Trent with the 35th British Winter Guard Championships.  This year over 130 people, including all 4 of our Guards together with staff, parents and supporters, made the journey!

Congratulations to all 4 of our units on, once again, another successful competitive winter season:

  • The Rugrats Guard under their new leadership of Karen Mellor came a fantastic 2nd in the Cadet Class winning the Silver Medal.

  • Having handed over the reigns of the Rugrats after 9 years, Krissie Longford took over the Juniors for this season and they did magnificently well all season winning all their contests, up to and including the Prelims event on Championships day, but were just piped to the post in their Finals coming in 2nd place in the Junior Class also winning the Silver Medal.

  • The A Guard, under the joint direction of Stacey & Dave Barham, had been playing cat and mouse all season with one other Guard but come Championships day they really came to their fore and in the end comfortably won the Gold Medal being crowned British A Class Champions (for the 7th time) - a fabulous achievement.

  • This year the Open Guard pushed hard under the leadership of Gavin Woodhead and were chomping at the bit to grab the bronze medal as it had been nip and tuck all season between 3rd and 4th place but on the day it was not to be as they took 4th Place in the Open Class.

Full details from our 2014 season are available by clicking here including full scores from the WGUK contests we attended.

The win for the A Guard brings the total number of Championships wins for Southern Knights up to 20 and we have now won at least one national title every year for the past 10 years - an achievement we are very proud of.

This summer we will be holding recruitment events in conjunction with Brighton & Hove City Council as we look to start increasing our membership again ready for the 2015 winter season.

As always, we would like to pass on our thanks to all the staff, parents and supporters who provide all the members with such great support - and, of course, thank you to the members for their commitment and hard work and for providing us with such a great array of talent over the past winter.
