2015 Season results

The 2015 Winter Guard United Kingdom season came to an end on Saturday 4th April at the Fenton Manor Leisure Centre in Stoke On Trent with the 36th British Winter Guard Championships.   Including all 4 of our Guards together with staff, parents and supporters, over 140 people made the trip this year and thanks to everyone for their support.

Congratulations to all 4 of our units on, once again, another successful competitive winter season:

  • The Rugrats Guard, under the leadership of Karen Mellor, had a great season.  Coming 1st at their first two contests and then coming a fantastic 4th in the Cadet Class Championships - just missing out on the Bronze medal.  Karen is now moving onto pasture new and all at SK would like thank her for her work and support over many years with us and wish her well for the future.

  • In only her second season running the Juniors, Krissie Longford and her team started the season strong, being placed 2nd at their first contest, and then kicked it up another notch with added props and show ideas to remain undefeated for the rest of the contests and take the Gold Medal and the Junior Class Champions title on Championships Day

  • Under the joint direction of Stacey & Dave Barham, the A Guard show this year was a logistical masterpiece as the costumes and flags changed from full of colour to completely black.  As last year they were playing cat and mouse all season with one other Guard but then come Championships day another unit jumped above them and they had to settle for the Runners Up spot and the Silver Medal in the A Class - still a great result.

  • 2005 was the last time SK won the Open Class title and Director Gavin Woodhead was wondering if this trophy was ever going to come his way!! With one of the largest Guards we have had in this class things were looking good as they remained undefeated in the UK all the way through to the Prelims on the morning of Championships - then the unthinkable happened - last years winners took the top spot!!  However, the resolve was there and a fabulous Finals performance pushed them back to 1st Place, the Gold Medal and the Open Class Champions title.  Great job.

Full details from our 2015 season, including full scores from the WGUK contests we attended, are available by clicking here.

We are very proud to be able to say that these two Champions titles brings the total number of Championships wins for Southern Knights up to 22 and we have now won at least one national title every year for the past 11 years.

The summer months will be sent in our more relaxed style but still working on techniques and plans ready for next winter and we also hope to be attending a few local functions to help with recruitment.

Huge thanks to all the staff, parents and supporters who continue to provide all the members with such great support.  Also a massive thank you and well done to the members for their hard work and commitment and for providing us with such a great array of talent over the past winter.
